Boo! for Hunger: Art for a Cause

Boo for HungerBy Heather Harper I Borderline Press I September 2, 2016

Sometimes is more than just beautiful work created for aesthetic pleasure; sometimes, it can be used to help those in need. This October, Michigan artist, Judy Alford, featured here on Author’s Nest back in February in the piece, Timeline of A Visual Journey, is donating her time and her artwork to give back to her community. In a collaborative effort with Move for Hunger, a non-profit organization based in New Jersey, along with Preferred Moving & Storage, Inc., Judy hopes to raise money and food through a food drive, called Boo! for Hunger.

During the food drive, Judy will be offering Halloween-themed face-painting for children of all ages for a suggested donation of $5. All proceeds raised during the drive will be donated to Move for Hunger. The featured face-painting styles available will include fairy masks for girls and flaming masks for boys, but children are welcome to select whichever style they prefer.

Face-painting is not the only medium she will be using to support Boo! for Hunger. Since there are so many food drives during the end of the year, she is also donating Halloween-themed, hand-painted ceramic pieces from her studio for a raffle to attract attention to the cause. Contestants are invited to donate two cans of food for a chance to win one of three mugs: a skull, a pumpkin, and Frankenstein. For a donation of five cans or more, contestants will be entered to win the grand prize, a large one-of-a-kind pumpkin and ghost décor piece.
